EAC

Eastern African Community

A regional intergovernmental organisation comprising of the Republics of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Rwanda and Republic of Burundi.

Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS)

A preferential trading arrangement between Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

Effectively Applied Duty

A customs duty which is lower than the statutory or bound duty.  The effectively applied duty can be for an undetermined period of time or for a limited period of time (temporary duty).  Effectively applied duties are sometimes passed by Parliament or decided on and put into effect by a government for economic reasons.
